Paediatric IIH
IIH in Children
The presentation, investigation and management/treatment for IIH is largely the same in children, with the involvement of paediatric specialists for co-ordinating the care. Fortunately the visual outcomes for children are good in New Zealand, based on recent audits

There is a difference in the demographic of younger children who are pre-pubertal children (prior to puberty), and older children who are pubescent (after onset of puberty).
Pre- and Post-pubertal
The risk of developing IIH is highest in obese pubescent teenage females, which is similar to demographic for adult IIH.
The pre-pubertal group has a different demographics, often having a normal BMI, and less of a female preponderance (more equal gender split).
Research is ongoing in this area, as we try to further understand the differences.
